The Hungry Ghosts Of Childhood Trauma

Those who have experienced childhood trauma often find themselves living a life narrated by hungry ghosts.

These ghosts of the past are what create and keep maintained the patterns in life, that maybe we recognise and maybe we don’t.

We will feel and fall as a victim again and again, to a similar relationship, a loop of self sabotage, a pit of darkness and reach out to what meets the pain

And it is there that the hungry ghosts feed and feel satisfied, energised to keep the story of the past here, pulsing. alive in the present

To move from trauma, it is an empowering and essential step, in my experience, to not only notice the patterns in our life that have a similar thread to the past, but to also notice the feeling in our body.

For it is the feeling that we are experiencing that is the hungry ghost that was stare us towards what feeds and validates that feeling

If we are feeling shame, we will reach towards what exasperates that shame

If we are feeling unloved, rejected, abandoned, we will lean towards those who affirm we are unlovable and have rejected or abandoned us again and again

Once we have noticed the feeling we have the power to make a present choice

The feeling is old and only feels loud and alive when life choices and situations affirm it as present and true.

In this moment of noticing, we can choose to feed or not to feed the past, we can move in a new direction and in doing so weaken the grip of the past and its hungry ghosts.
