When the body feels a painful place to be, we are without the home of solid form that connects and grounds us to the Earth we walk upon, the people around us and to the powerful experience and expression of our most alive, authentic self.
Life becomes limited, under nourished, unfulfilling and often out of balance and chaotic, without inhabiting our flesh and bones.
For what was the safe container we were born into, has to become so again for us to move beyond the pain that ties us to the past and disassociation from our body.
Disassociation is a valuable tool in the protection and preservation of our essence when we are in situations that are a violation to us and overwhelming beyond the tools we have to be present to what is happening.
This act of body intelligence serves at the time of the event happening but is not a state of being to permanently exist in.
When the body feels a painful place to be, it is because we have made our body our enemy, because it was the object of our abuse, humiliation, violation, distress … and so the place we choose to escape.
With this attitude towards our body we are also able to bypass meeting the wound and both healing and growing from it, which means the wound still leaks into our daily lives as sabotaging behaviour patterns or toxic and loving relationships with our self, body and others.
When we can begin to have compassion for our body, as simply the innocent flesh that endured the experiences as much as we did, the pain can begin to shift into a new experience of living from within the safe container of a body.
How to move from pain to embodiment:
❤️ Slowly integrate into daily life acts of kindness towards your body. For myself I began to care that I ate regular meals, it felt the place to begin …
❤️ Play with self caress … it maybe that your hands, of your feet feel the softer place to begin. Caring for the skin, noticing sensation.
❤️ Become your bodies friend … parent … lover. Would you treat a person you love the way you treat yourself? If the answer is no, than you know to shift that particular action or self talk.
❤️ Move your body in joy … not for a goal, or to perfect … allow joy.
❤️ Meet the wounds. The wounds hold the medicine in which we can choose to grow from.
Our relationship with our body moves from pain to pleasure, joy and aliveness as we gently and consistently create new ways of meeting our body and establishing a felt sense of safety within.
